kung fu panda

for starters, i dont think it is an all and out children's movie. it has something very deep and touching which makes this movie a must watch for everybody. Oh yes Kung Fu Panda is not only funny but also teaches a lot.

'Believe in yourself' is the central theme of the movie. po, the ordinary, extremly plump, damn cute panda who doesnt want to follow his fathers footsteps in making noodles but wants to search for a destiny of his own, is the protagonist of the play who is chosen as the dragon warrior accidentally, by the wise Turtle (i forget his name)(phew..now that is a long sentence is it not?). this chosen warrior is to protect the village against the villain (am still not very sure what animal our villain is. hyena? maybe).

coming back to the story, the panda is supposed to be trained in kung fu by master Sheifu who was trained by the Turtle in turn. Sheifu has trained five others to become the dragon warrior and strongly believes that Po was chosen accidentally. the turtle often repeats that "nothing happens by accident".

Sheifu is determined to make Po resign his post soon and subjects him to very difficult tasks and all Po says is "I know a dragon warrior never gives up master. and i wont" (here is where you go awwww!!!poor Po and Bad Sheifu). but Sheifu is not all that bad is he. When his master, the Turtle departs, he is told to 'Believe' and he does. He believes that Po was destined to be the warrior and he will train him to defeat the enemy.

Sheifu realises that the only way to teach Po was through the ultimate reinforcement-Food (talk about reaching a man through his stomach:)). Simultaneously, the villain escapes from his prison and wants to be the dragon warrior(the dragon warrior get a scroll which gives him immense power). Meanwhile Po gets the scroll and finds nothing in it except a mirror reflecting himself, meanin believe in yourself. With this secret weapon, Po beats the villian and saves the villiage.

the movie says cater to the unique interests of the students to help them learn which could be a direct message to the teachers of today. it tells everyone to feel proud of what you are and believe in yourself then you can overcome anything in life.the key here is to believe. now am sure that that is the power of our subconscious-to believe and make things happen.

an out and out childrens movie, and having something 'deep' don't necessarily contradict each other, nay? fact, its prolly the kids movies that got those messages and the likes!

acceptance - well, its a double edged sword. on the one hand, there is the need to recognize honestly our shortcomings and try and tide over them, yet there is also teh danger of getting bogged down by the very same. turning a blind eye, to me, doesn't lead to progress.

it is not who you are inside but it is what you do that defines you

dharma:
acceptance IS a double edged sword accepted:)it could also be mistaken as complaisance. what i took that quote to mean we accept what we are and not regret what we have turned out to be. that doesnt mean we do not do anything to try and change for the better.
