Water water everywhere not a drop to drink
"there has been no water for ten days." "i am planning to have my son's school uniform dry cleaned because there is no water to wash it."
i am not a 'news' person. maybe because people have always tried to force me into reading the papers, i dont do it. but today as i was sitting with my brother and surfing through the umpteen number of channels, i regretfully stopped at some 24/7 news channel. news channels are worse than the newspapers as they mostly show the same stuff all day long and call it 'Breaking News' for some reason.
so coming back to this disruption in my surfing, the lady in the tv said that people are willing to try and get their hands on 'liquid gold' in Delhi. both my bro and i looked at each other and back at the idiot box. then the news went thus. apparently Haryana has been unable to send enough water into a reservoir in Delhi and hence our Nations capital is facing a major water crisis. there has been no water in many areas for the past ten days. People are using packaged water to even clean vessels.
god! thats unbelievable. well actually not. global warming, melting glaciers, varying climates, no water, drought etc. have become so common a news now that it does not seem to astonish me anymore, it just makes me sad. just recently my mother and i were wondering why people would buy packaged dring water even in the city of coimbatore which has 24hrs drinking water facility. well atleast it used to have. now maybe things have changed.
sometimes i wonder what i have done to contribute to all this? i am just trying to move on with the world. but i definitely am contributing to this i know. i shall try to conserve this natural resource as much as possible and i request you to do the same because you never know when 'you and i' will be the ones begging for 'liquid gold'.

some of my good friends, people who move closely with me, think i am obsessed. i can only pity them, for they don't see beyond the today, beyond this one life, beyond the so called wells they live in.
conservation is a habit, and extends to everything, not just water. it is a way of life. it must become an obsession for all, else we'l continue spiralling down the abyss, as we are now. mankind is in for a huge challenge - of saving itself.
Yes, we in the West are profligate with water. I've watered my greenhouses today, turning on the tap to the hoses and splashing water about. I use less than I used to; I have a shallow bath (but not a bucket and shower) and I never have watered the lawn, but I don't count its cost.

Am sure none of us realise its importance. we take these natural resources for granted jsut because theyhave been there ever since we knoew. only a few notice its depletion.
