cherished moments

the sky was bright, i searched for her everywhere and finally spotted her peeping from behind the mountains. slowly and steadily she rose to illuminate the otherwise star spotted dark sky. she was not her usual self today, not the milky white i always find her to be adorned in. she was yellow, the exact same yellow that characterises pure cow milk. mesmerised i sat staring at her through the windows of the fast moving train. after admiring her for a few minutes, i looked closer and was comforted by the familiar picture of a girl riding on her motorcycle with her hair flying behind her, inside the yellow orb. i dont know why but i always see this image instead of the 'rabbit-in-the-moon' and this never fails to bring a smile to my lips.

as i was smiling my thoughts drifted to the good old days when i used to sit admiring the night sky on the portico of 'Brindhavan', my home till i was about 13. there we all used to sit- amma, appa, anna and I, getting some fresh breeze after the days work. With the electricity gone all of us one-by-one would drift to this place and plant ourselves comfortably in various positions. Dad, i remember always used to be on his 'easy-chair' and amma on 'kutti chair'. my bro and i would simply sit on the ground beside them.

The best part about this, which i fondly recall, is the silence. all of us in our own thoughts reliving our day, our fights, some extremly funny situation, planning for the next day and each wondering what the other must be thinking. those precious moments i dont think we will ever get back what with us children grown up now, having our own lives and the house being sold. yes, that house which i would still call home, where i spent some of the happiest days of my life, which i always told my mom i would retire to when i was 60 is now being sold.

I jsut hope that that 'home' gives as much or even more pleasure to some other family with probably two young children, an 'easy-chair' and a 'kutti chair':)

Facts or fiction?
Very nice memoir anyway. And your blog is very nice looking as well.

Houses hold so much memories that if they were physical they wouldn't fit inside!
