The wave of 2012

Negativity!  That is what this year seemed to have been filled with! The year saw many scams that made us reflect on the trust we place on our government representatives, religion and caste issues  that made us shake our heads and wonder why these things have never changed over the centuries, shootings in a few places out of which only those that happened in the US being noticed giving us a sense of the power US wields over the world (let’s face it, they rule the world without saying it out loud) and finally the brutal murders and rapes in our country opening our eyes to the pitiable state of affairs in our nation. Weren’t we all warned that this is what would happen in kali yugam?
2012 was not just filled with this apparent decay of the society. What would you say of the sensationalism of every negative issue created by the media? Oh yes! The media is spreading awareness, but at the cost of what? This, what they are doing, is what has sucked out the hope and happiness of the approaching year! It has made us curse the government of our country which ‘we’ are a part of, which ‘we’ have created. So easily the blame is transferred to the other and we feel ‘oh what have I done to live in such a society!’ forgetting that I make this society.
This year was not a year of negativity just in the society but in my personal life too. I was flooded by doubts as to my capabilities, my love and accomplishment of my dreams.
Yet the year brought hope. A hope brought through mankind’s realization of the ills he is doing to his society and nature. There are those who look beyond themselves and fight for a better world. When we saw all the crimes, shootings etc we fail to see the protests and demonstrations done to work towards better polices. How many of us carry this hope at this point? Is this not a reason to celebrate? Is this not a call saying ‘humanity still has a chance?’ What are we doing to contribute to it?
My doubts still remain but that in no way is going to stop me from being happy for I know that these doubts are just passing clouds and that life has much more to give. So I am glad to end this year on a happy note focusing on the positives. Focusing on my circle of influence helps me know that I can and am doing my bit to ensure that not all is lost.
I pray that we allow our inner light to brighten up this seemingly dark passage that we are traversing. Let us have a fabulous year ahead with a lot more laughter, appreciation, music, passion, patience and hope for these are probably some essential attributes to live a happy life in the 21st centuryJ

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.
