The Scorpion

It was a murder in broad day-light
Witnessed by many children and adults
Some relishing the murder by imitating the actions of the might
I was a mute witness like all others
I hope no one ever acts like the way we acted
Feeling ‘it is just a scorpion that we are murdering’

“it must have come in to seek shelter from the rains” said one
“we are living in its territory, we are to be blamed” said another
But no one knows why the scorpion chose that fateful day to come to the building
I wonder if it was a he or a she
Why did the animal not try to run away?
Its beauty and the way in which it refused to fight will haunt me for a long time to come

The shoes of all the students were lined up against the wall
In between these shoes the scorpion waited to die cornered by innumerable feet
What it did not know was that the feet would have immediately given way
To its flight, if only it chose to run away which it did not
“thank god it did not sting any child!” exclaimed one
“what makes the life of the child more worthy than that of the scorpion!!” screamed my mind.
